Earlier this year I was commissioned to refurbish a 1957 Buick conversion by a car collector.
Having had the top of the car cut off, the interior was to be wood panelling which I custom designed to look like boat decking, inspired by Riviera boats and my work on superyachts.
We used Redwood for colour matching to offset the baby blue and white – an American wood locally harvested out of Knysna – perfect for an American classic muscle car. Black rubberized corking creates the boat-deck style finish.
The feature is the back sill behind the back seats flowing into the arm rests.
I also hand-carved fittings including the door handles, gear knob and gear-shifter housing.
