Aherin Studio Design Manifesto
Objects with Soul
Great design transcends utility and aesthetics – it tells a story. Every piece I create carries a narrative, a connection to its origin, the material, and the hands that shaped it. My goal is to craft objects that resonate on an emotional level, developing a bond between the owner and their space.
Material as Muse
Each design begins with a deep respect for the raw materials I work with – whether it’s the intricate grain of American Oak, the classic beauty of Walnut, or the richness of Kiaat. By honouring the unique qualities of each material, I create pieces that feel alive, timeless, and rooted in their natural origins.
Form Meets Function, Naturally
Inspired by the organic world, my designs blend sculptural forms with meticulous functionality. Legs that flow like water, a glass top shaped by a hand-drawn line, or a drawer perched as delicately as a bird on a branch – each element is crafted to evoke wonder and purpose.
Sustainable, Thoughtful Craftsmanship
Sustainability is at the heart of my practice. No off-cut goes unused, and even the smallest piece later becomes part of a cheeseboard, a toy, a jewellery box. By transforming offcuts into one-of-a-kind designs and crafting pieces meant to last, I ensure that my work contributes to a future of conscious creation. The result is design that enriches the present while respecting the resources that made it possible.
A Celebration of Place
Rooted in the context of modern African design, my work embraces the landscapes, cultures, and histories that inspire me. From the “Indlovu Champagne Table”, reminiscent of elephants’ protective strength, to the “Oystercatcher Bedside Table”, echoing Southern Africa’s birdlife, I strive to celebrate a deep connection to place and purpose.
The Power of the Handmade
Every piece I create is handcrafted, imbued with care and intention. From the precision of dovetail joints to the curves of a hand-carved surface, my process ensures each creation is not just functional but a work of art.
Design for a Life Well-Lived
I design for moments. A coffee table made for sharing Cap Classique in a sunlit room. A cheeseboard that elevates a picnic. A bedside table that cradles your most precious items. A dining table to tell stories around.
Through my work, I aim to craft furniture that becomes part of the stories you tell.
